Ear Candling
Ear Candling or Ear Coning, is both an Old World and Native American method of removing excess ear wax, water, dust, pollen, dead skin cells and other debris from the ear.
Ear "candles" are made by dipping cotton muslin in 100% pure bees wax, then rolling the cloth into a long "cone." It is open at both ends, with one end being small enough to fit into the ear, or into a safety device, which then goes into the ear.
The part of the cone that is farthest from the ear is lit. The heat of the flame helps the body to naturally process or express any excess material in it. Excess wax is usually warmed enough to be able to be reabsorbed by the body. A little bit of wax may be drawn up into the hollow candle, as a very gentle vacuum is created by the heat.
Ear Candling by Sophia Zoe includes the use of a safety device so that the candle is not directly in the ear. She begins with a session of Therapeutic Touch and a light lymphatic massage around the neck, chest and head. This ensures maximum benefit for the client. It is extremely relaxing, and works on many levels, not just the physical.
Ear Candling is useful if you sense hearing loss in one or both ears, if your balance is off, during allergy season to draw out pollen, after you've been on a bacteria-laden airplane, if a bug or water gets in your ear, or just when you're feeling out-of-sorts and know you need something to help.
