Reiki (“ray-kee”) is a popular Japanese healing method dating back 5000 years. “Rei” means universal and “ki” means life energy. Hence, Reiki is the energy of the universe that is available to all. Across time and cultures, people have talked about the idea that our physical universe is made of energy that is subject to our thoughts. Reiki is in agreement with this idea.
A Reiki practitioner has been trained to bring that universal energy into herself and direct it to the client in a gentle manner. The focus of this energy transfer is the hands. During a treatment, the client will typically lie on a massage table, fully clothed. The practitioner will begin a series of hand positions, placing her hands lightly on the client’s body and holding, until a balance is felt. There is no pressure put on the body, and in fact, the treatment can even be administered without any touch at all. The client will experience feelings of deep relaxation, peace and love flowing into her.
Reiki is used to treat a variety of ailments, including, but not limited to: stress, headaches, stomach upsets, anxiety, back problems, chronic pain, asthma and other respiratory problems, and sinus issues. In addition to being simple, gentle and effective, Reiki, like many other modalities, has the following benefits:
- Treats the whole being: body, mind and soul
- Is safe, gentle and non-invasive
- Balances the body’s energies
- Balances the organs and glands
- Boosts immune function
- Energy goes where the priority need is
- Alters the perception of pain
- Clears toxins
- Encourages personal growth
- Reduces stress and reverses its effects
- Promotes creativity
- Dissolves blockages – physical, emotional and spiritual.
- Facilitates meditation and positive thinking
Reiki energy will go where it is needed most. Physical pain often disappears and organ function improves. Reiki therapy can be done on-the-spot, making it a practical choice for many nurses and paramedics around the world. It is a very gentle, calming and uplifting therapy, with minimal or no talking during treatment. Sessions are approximately one hour long.
