Ear Candling, or Ear Coning, is an ancient therapy method used by the indigenous peoples of Egypt, North America and Europe. The process was developed to help the body naturally deal with blockages in the ears. The ear “candles” are made by dipping cotton muslin in 100% pure beeswax, then rolling the cloth into a long cone. It is open at both ends, with one end small enough to fit into the ear, or into a safety device (my method), which then goes into the ear. The part of the cone that is farthest from the ear is lit. As the candle burns, gentle heat is drawn into the ear canal. This softens the earwax enough so that the body can naturally dispose of it through the lymphatic system. The process also loosens and softens dust and dead skin cells, which is then collected into the remaining unburned portion of the candle. The heat of the flame helps the body to naturally process or express any excess material in it. Ear Candling is useful for a variety of scenarios, including:
- Hearing loss in one or both ears
- A loss of physical balance
- Allergies at any time of the year
- Feeling ill after being on an airplane
- Dry, hacking cough
- Water in the ear
- Bug in the ear
- Sinus headaches or infections
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- Itchy ears and eyes
- Any time you’re coming down with a cold or other virus
- Any time you just feel out-of-sorts
By eliminating toxins, bacteria, excess moisture and other blockages, many common complaints can be easily eliminated, in a simple and relaxing procedure. My ear candling sessions begin with Therapeutic Touch in order to first bring the entire body into balance, making the ear candling even more effective. From there, you receive a light lymphatic massage from the underarms to the ear. By stimulating the lymph nodes, your body is better primed to dispose of toxins. Then the ear candling begins.
In my ear candling sessions, the candle goes into a safety device, so that the candle is never directly in the ear. You may hear a soft crackling as the candle burns, if there is water in the ear. On the whole, it is extremely relaxing and pleasant. The Natives believed that the burning flame of the ear candle would burn up any energetic debris in the layers of a person’s aura, thereby cleansing it. So the treatment is not just to benefit the ears, but also the emotional, mental and spiritual fields outside the physical body.
It’s recommended that ear candling be done on a quarterly basis for general upkeep of the body. It is a gentle and effective way to keep healthy, and can be used on people of all ages. Yes, it is safe even for children. But please note: it takes about 17 minutes for a candle to burn, so it is important that children be able to sit still for this length of time. (You cannot hold down a toddler.)
Ear Candling in Sophia’s office: $150. Cash please.
Ear Candling in Your Home: For two or more people, there is a family discount:
$130 for the first person, $90 for each additional person at the same location.
Each session is 75-120 minutes, depending on how many candles are required. One candle for each ear included. $5 for each additional candle, if necessary. I use a safety device for your comfort and protection. I begin with a light lymphatic massage around the neck, jaw and ears . I continue with a session of Therapeutic Touch for maximum benefit to you. The candling will be more effective, and you will have received a very deep, relaxing healing. Since adding Therapeutic Touch, I found clients are far less likely to need a second ear candling session right away.
Please note: if you have had any recent ear surgery, or have ear tubes, congenital hearing loss, ankylosis of the stapes, acute mastoiditis, or damage to the eardrum, it is advised that you do not have ear candling done.
Minimum 24 hours’ notice. If you have a friend or family member step in to replace you, no charge.
Thank you for your understanding.
